Ages 5-10 | Tuesdays | 6/13, 6/20, 6/27, 7/11, 7/24 6p-8p
This is a great place to introduce young kids to the water. Sessions are held on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 pm. Initial sessions are held in the pool so that everyone becomes used to the boats. From there we progress to sailing in the lagoons or the lake depending on the conditions.
We strive for a one to one ratio of support boats to Optimist Dinghies. This is done to facilitate instruction and ensure safety. We require at least 1 parent to stay during the session. Even if the parent does not know how to sail, we need many hands to help launch boats, keep track of kids and help in other ways.
Recommended ages are 5 to 10 years old, but it really depends on the child involved and how you feel they will take to this sport. This is a great stepping stone into the Crows Nest Program for those that want a better picture of what is involved in the evening. All SOS'ers will get an official camp t-shirt!
This program is limited to ten kids and will fill up fast! We also offer half-day Learn to Sail Clinics for ages 8-13, which are during the day.
Our instructors are certified in Red Cross, CPR and have at least a Level One Coaching certification from US Sailing. They are all chosen for their teaching, personal and sailing skills. A high instructor-to-camper ratio ensures that each participant gets close supervision. Many of our instructors grew up in our camp, ensuring we carry on our longstanding traditions.
